Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1/2 cup pecans, chopped

1/2 cup whole milk (or buttermilk)

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Extra maple syrup and pecans for drizzling and topping (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat.

Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until thoroughly mixed.

Cut in the Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Use a pastry blender or your fingertips to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Add Pecans: Stir in the chopped pecans until they are evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract.

Combine Wet and Dry Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix gently with a spatula or wooden spoon until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; the dough should be slightly sticky.

Form the Dough: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Gently knead the dough just a couple of times, then shape it into a circle about 1 inch thick. Cut the circle into 8 wedges or use a cookie cutter for a more uniform shape.

Bake the Scones: Place the scones on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until golden brown on the tops.

Cool and Drizzle: Remove the scones from the oven and let them cool on a wire rack for a few minutes. Drizzle some extra maple syrup over the warm scones and sprinkle with more chopped pecans if desired.

Serve: Enjoy your Buttery Maple Pecan Scones warm with additional butter or on their own as a delightful snack or breakfast treat!
