Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef (or sliced beef)

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

2-3 Thai bird chilies, finely chopped (adjust to taste)

1 medium onion, sliced

1 bell pepper (red or green), sliced

1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon fish sauce

1 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon lime juice

Cooked jasmine rice, for serving

Lime wedges, for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Beef: If using sliced beef, marinate it in 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and 1 teaspoon of cornstarch for about 15 minutes. If using ground beef, pull it out of the fridge and allow it to come to room temperature.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet or wok, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.

Sauté Aromatics: Add the minced garlic and chopped chilies to the pan. Sauté for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Cook the Beef: Increase the heat to high and add the ground or marinated sliced beef. Stir-fry until the beef is browned and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes.

Add Vegetables: Toss in the sliced onion and bell pepper. Stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes or until the vegetables are slightly tender but still crisp.

Season the Dish: In a small bowl, mix together soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, sugar, and lime juice. Pour this sauce over the beef and vegetable mixture, stirring well to combine.

Finish with Basil: Remove the pan from heat and gently fold in the Thai basil leaves until just wilted.

Serve: Spoon the aromatic Thai basil beef stir-fry over bowls of cooked jasmine rice. Garnish with lime wedges for a refreshing touch.
