Ingredients

4 large croissants, preferably day-old for better structure

8 slices of deli ham (smoked or honey ham works great)

8 slices of Swiss cheese (or any cheese of your choice, like Gouda or Gruyère)

2 tablespoons Dijon mustard

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon dried herbs (thyme and/or oregano)

Freshly cracked black pepper, to taste

1 egg (for egg wash)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for an easy cleanup.

Prepare the Croissants: Carefully slice each croissant in half horizontally, taking care not to cut all the way through. You want to create a pocket to hold the ham and cheese.

Spread the Mustard: On the inside of each croissant, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard for a tangy flavor.

Layer the Fillings: Place 2 slices of ham and 2 slices of cheese into each croissant. Feel free to stack the ham and cheese for an indulgent bite!

Brush with Butter: In a small mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, garlic powder, dried herbs, and black pepper. Brush this mixture generously over the top of each croissant to enhance the flavor and give a golden finish.

Egg Wash: Beat the egg in a small bowl and brush it over the tops of the croissants for added color and shine when baked.

Bake: Arrange the croissants on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Garnish and Serve: Once out of the oven, let them cool slightly. If desired, sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color. Serve warm, and enjoy your delicious Baked Ham and Cheese Croissants!
