Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

1 lb ground turkey

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (preferably Italian seasoned)

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup mozzarella cheese, cubed (or use mini mozzarella balls)

For the Sauce:

2 cups marinara sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 tablespoon olive oil

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Meatball Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground turkey, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan, chopped parsley, minced garlic, egg, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined (do not overmix).

Stuff the Meatballs: With your hands, take a small amount of the turkey mixture (about 2 tablespoons). Flatten it in your palm, place a cube of mozzarella in the center, and carefully wrap the turkey around the cheese, forming a ball. Ensure the cheese is completely encased. Repeat with the remaining mixture.

Bake the Meatballs: Arrange the stuffed meatballs on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle a little olive oil over each meatball for added flavor and to help them brown. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the meatballs are golden brown and cooked through.

Prepare the Sauce: While the meatballs are baking, heat the marinara sauce in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in the olive oil and red pepper flakes, if using, and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.

Serve: Once the meatballs are cooked, remove them from the oven and let them cool for a couple of minutes. Serve the meatballs drizzled with marinara sauce and garnish with fresh basil, if desired.

Enjoy: Pair these delicious Baked Mozzarella Stuffed Turkey Meatballs with pasta, a side salad, or simply on their own as an appetizer!
