Ingredients

For the BBQ Brisket:

3-4 lbs beef brisket

2 tbsp smoked paprika

2 tbsp brown sugar

1 tbsp garlic powder

1 tbsp onion powder

1 tbsp ground black pepper

1 tbsp ground cumin

2 tsp salt

1 cup beef broth

1 cup BBQ sauce (your favorite brand or homemade)

For the Tangy Slaw:

4 cups green cabbage, finely shredded

1 cup carrots, grated

1/2 cup red cabbage, finely shredded

1/2 cup mayonnaise

2 tbsp apple cider vinegar

1 tbsp honey

1 tsp Dijon mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

For Assembly:

8 sandwich buns (brioche or whole wheat)

Extra BBQ sauce for serving (optional)

Pickles (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Brisket:

    - In a small bowl, mix together smoked paprika, brown sugar, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, cumin, and salt to create the rub.

      - Coat the brisket generously with the rub, ensuring it is well covered. Wrap in plastic wrap and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.

        Cook the Brisket:

          - Preheat your oven to 225°F (107°C).

            - Place the brisket in a roasting pan and pour the beef broth around the meat (avoiding pouring it directly on top).

              - Cover the pan tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for about 6-8 hours, until the brisket is tender and can be pulled apart with a fork.

                - In the last hour of baking, brush the brisket with BBQ sauce, re-cover, and continue cooking.

                  Make the Tangy Slaw:

                    - In a large bowl, combine the green cabbage, carrots, and red cabbage.

                      - In a separate bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, apple cider vinegar, honey, mustard, salt, and pepper.

                        - Pour the dressing over the cabbage mixture and toss well to combine. Chill in the refrigerator until ready to serve.

                          Assemble the Sandwiches:

                            - Once the brisket is done, remove it from the oven and allow it to rest for about 20 minutes before slicing.

                              - Slice the brisket against the grain into thin pieces.

                                - Toast the sandwich buns if desired. Layer the sliced brisket on the bottom half of each bun, top with a generous scoop of tangy slaw, and drizzle with extra BBQ sauce if desired. Add pickles if you like.

                                  Serve:

                                    - Place the top half of the bun on the sandwich and serve immediately with extra slaw on the side.
