Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter

1 cup (200g) granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/3 cup (40g) unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 cup (65g) all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

For the Cheesecake Layer:

8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened

1/3 cup (40g) granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line an 8x8-inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

Make the Brownie Batter: In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup of butter over low heat. Remove from heat, and stir in the 1 cup of sugar, 2 large eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.

Add Dry Ingredients: Sift in the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder. Mix until just combined, being careful not to over-mix. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it into an even layer.

Prepare the Cheesecake Layer: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese until smooth. Gradually add 1/3 cup granulated sugar and mix until combined. Add the egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1 tablespoon of flour, mixing until the mixture is smooth and creamy.

Layer the Cheesecake Mixture: Drop spoonfuls of the cheesecake batter over the brownie layer. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the cheesecake into the brownie batter for a marbled effect.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center (aiming for the brownie part) comes out with a few moist crumbs, but not wet batter.

Cool and Slice: Allow the brownies to cool in the pan on a wire rack for about 20 minutes. Then, lift them out using the parchment paper and let them cool completely on the rack before slicing into squares.

Serve: Enjoy your decadent cheesecake brownies plain, or with a dollop of whipped cream or a drizzle of chocolate sauce!
