1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup brown sugar, packed

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup sweetened shredded coconut

3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

      Cream the Butters and Sugars: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until the mixture is creamy and light in color, about 2-3 minutes.

        Add Egg and Vanilla: Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter-sugar mixture, and mix until fully combined.

          Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until incorporated. Do not overmix.

            Fold in Coconut and Chocolate Chips: Gently fold in the shredded coconut and chocolate chips (and walnuts, if using) until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
