Store-bought varieties often rely on preservatives, artificial flavors, and unhealthy oils, while homemade fries allow for complete control over what goes into the dish. Making fries at home means you can choose the freshest ingredients, ensuring that each bite is bursting with flavor. Moreover, you can customize the seasonings and toppings to suit your personal taste, whether you prefer them spicy, cheesy, or herb-infused.

Ingredients

4 large russet potatoes

4 tablespoons olive oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon salt (adjust to taste)

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese

2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Optional: 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes for a spicy kick

Instructions

Prep the Potatoes: Begin by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C). Wash and peel the russet potatoes. Cut them into thin strips, about 1/4 inch thick, for crispy fries.

Soak the Fries: Place the cut potato strips in a large bowl of cold water. Soak for at least 30 minutes (this helps to remove excess starch for a crispier texture).

Dry the Fries: After soaking, drain the potatoes and pat them dry with a clean kitchen towel or paper towels to remove moisture.

Seasoning Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine olive oil, minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Mix well.

Coat the Fries: Add the dried potato strips to the seasoning mixture, tossing them well to ensure each fry is evenly coated with the oil and seasoning mixture.

Arrange on Baking Sheet: Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup. Spread the seasoned fries in an even layer, ensuring they are not overcrowded (this will help them become crispy).

Bake the Fries: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes, turning the fries halfway through, until they are golden brown and crispy.

Add Parmesan: Remove the fries from the oven and immediately sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese over the hot fries. Return them to the oven for an additional 5 minutes to allow the cheese to melt and become slightly crispy.

Garnish and Serve: Once done, remove the fries from the oven and transfer them to a serving plate. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce!
