Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

2 large onions, thinly sliced

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 cup beef broth

1 cup white wine (or low-sodium chicken broth)

2 tablespoons soy sauce

2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon dried rosemary

1 teaspoon salt

½ teaspoon black pepper

1 cup Gruyère cheese, shredded

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

1 baguette or crusty bread (optional, for serving)

Instructions

Prepare the Chicken: Season the chicken breasts with salt and black pepper, then place them at the bottom of your crockpot.

Layer the Onions and Garlic: Spread the thinly sliced onions evenly over the chicken. Add the minced garlic on top.

Mix the Broth: In a mixing bowl, combine the beef broth, white wine (or chicken broth), soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, balsamic vinegar, thyme, and rosemary. Stir well until combined.

Pour the Mixture: Carefully pour the broth mixture over the chicken and onions in the crockpot, ensuring everything is evenly distributed.

Cook: Cover the crockpot and cook on low heat for 6-8 hours, or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is thoroughly cooked and tender.

Add the Cheese: About 15 minutes before serving, sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese on top of the food in the crockpot. Cover and let it melt.

Prepare the Bread (Optional): While the cheese is melting, slice the baguette and toast it in the oven until golden brown for serving.

Serve: Once the cheese has melted, serve the chicken and onions hot, garnished with freshly chopped parsley. Accompany with toasted baguette slices for dipping into the delicious onion broth.
