Ingredients

12 oz ziti pasta

2 cups fresh spinach, roughly chopped

1 jar (24 oz) marinara sauce

2 cups ricotta cheese

2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 large egg

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tsp dried oregano

1 tsp dried basil

Salt and pepper to taste

Olive oil for greasing

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with olive oil.

Cook the Pasta: In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the ziti pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente (usually about 8-10 minutes). Drain and set aside.

Mix the Cheese Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, 1 cup of mozzarella cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, egg, minced garlic, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Mix well until fully combined.

Combine Ingredients: In a large bowl, mix the cooked pasta with the marinara sauce and chopped spinach. Stir until the pasta is well coated.

Layer the Dish: Spread half of the pasta mixture into the greased baking dish. Then, spread the cheese mixture over the pasta. Finally, add the remaining pasta mixture on top.

Add More Cheese: Sprinkle the remaining 1 cup of mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the ziti.

Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.

Cool slightly: Once baked, let the dish cool for about 5 minutes before serving. This will help set the layers.

Serve: Cut into squares and serve warm, garnished with fresh basil or Parmesan cheese if desired.
