At the foundation of our Garlic Bliss Grilled Cheese Sandwich is the bread: sourdough. This unique type of bread is characterized by its distinct tangy flavor and chewy texture, resulting from a natural fermentation process that involves wild yeast and lactic acid bacteria. Sourdough’s slightly sour taste pairs beautifully with the richness of cheese, providing a perfect balance that enhances the overall flavor profile of the sandwich.

Ingredients

8 slices of sourdough bread

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened

2 tablespoons garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried parsley (or 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped)

1 teaspoon onion powder

8 slices of sharp cheddar cheese

4 slices of mozzarella cheese

Salt and pepper to taste

Optional: 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes for a spicy kick

Instructions

Prepare the Garlic Butter: In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, dried parsley, onion powder, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Mix well until fully incorporated.

Assemble the Sandwiches: Spread a generous layer of the garlic butter mixture on one side of each slice of sourdough bread. On the unbuttered side of four slices, layer 2 slices of cheddar cheese followed by 1 slice of mozzarella cheese. Season with red pepper flakes if using. Top with another slice of bread, garlic butter side up.

Grill the Sandwiches: Heat a non-stick skillet or griddle over medium heat. Once hot, place the assembled sandwiches in the skillet. Cook them for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until the bread is golden brown and crispy, and the cheese inside has melted. You may need to adjust the heat to prevent burning.

Serve: Once grilled to perfection, remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Allow them to cool for a minute before slicing them in half diagonally. Serve warm, and enjoy your delicious Garlic Bliss Grilled Cheese Sandwich!

Optional Garnish: For an extra touch, sprinkle a little extra parsley on top and serve with a side of marinara sauce or creamy tomato soup for dipping.
