Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup unsalted cold butter, cubed

1 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tablespoon lemon juice)

1/2 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

4 cloves garlic, finely minced

1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (for brushing)

1 teaspoon garlic powder (for the topping)

1/4 teaspoon sea salt (for the topping)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and granulated sugar until well combined.

Cut in the Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter into the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, combine the buttermilk, minced garlic, and chopped parsley. Stir until the garlic is evenly distributed.

Form the Dough: Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk mixture. Add the shredded cheddar cheese and black pepper. Gently fold the ingredients together until just combined; do not overmix.

Shape the Biscuits: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat it into a rectangle about 1 inch thick. Fold the dough over itself (like a book) a few times to create layers, then gently roll it out again to about 1 inch thick. Cut out biscuits using a round cutter or a glass.

Prepare for Baking: Place the biscuits onto the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.

Brush with Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter with garlic powder and sea salt. Brush the top of each biscuit generously with the garlic butter mixture before baking.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown on top.

Serve Hot: Once baked, remove the biscuits from the oven and brush them again with any remaining garlic butter. Serve warm, preferably with additional butter or your favorite dipping sauce!
