Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar, packed

1 large egg

1 tablespoon orange zest (from about 1 large orange)

2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)

1 cup white chocolate chips (or dark chocolate chips, if preferred)

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.

Add Egg and Flavors: Beat in the egg, orange zest, fresh orange juice, vanilla extract, and almond extract (if using) until well combined.

Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing just until incorporated. Be careful not to overmix.

Fold in Add-ins: Gently fold in the white chocolate chips and nuts (if using) until evenly distributed throughout the dough.

Scoop the Cookies: Using a tablespoon or a cookie scoop, place rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving about 2 inches between each cookie to allow for spreading.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. The centers may look slightly underdone, but they will set as they cool.

Cool: Remove from the oven and let the cookies sit on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Enjoy: Serve warm or store in an airtight container for up to a week. These cookies are sure to brighten your day with their zesty flavor!
