Ingredients

500g ground beef (minced)

2 tablespoons cooking oil (preferably mustard or vegetable oil)

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 medium tomatoes, pureed

2 green chilies, slit lengthwise

1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1 teaspoon garam masala

1 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon red chili powder (adjust to taste)

Salt to taste

1/2 cup peas (fresh or frozen)

2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves for garnish

Lemon wedges for serving

Instructions

Heat the Oil: In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Once hot, add the cumin seeds and sauté until they start to sizzle and change color.

Sauté Onions: Add the chopped onions to the pan and cook until they turn golden brown, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.

Add Ginger-Garlic Paste: Stir in the ginger-garlic paste and sauté for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the raw smell disappears.

Cook Tomatoes: Pour in the pureed tomatoes, add slit green chilies, and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the mixture thickens and the oil separates from the tomatoes.

Spice It Up: Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt to the tomato mixture. Stir well to combine, and cook for another 2-3 minutes.

Incorporate Meat: Add the ground beef to the pot, breaking it up with a spoon. Mix well and cook on medium-high heat until the meat is browned, about 5-8 minutes.

Add Peas & Simmer: Once browned, stir in the peas and 1/2 cup of water. Cover the pan, reduce the heat to low, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Adjust the viscosity of the dish by adding more water if needed.

Finishing Touch: Once the qeema is cooked through and flavors are well combined, stir in the garam masala and let it cook for another 2-3 minutes.

Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat, garnish with chopped coriander leaves, and serve hot with lemon wedges on the side.
