Ingredients

4 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced

1 tablespoon lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 cup rolled oats

1/2 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1/4 cup walnuts or pecans, chopped (optional)

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Drizzle:

1/4 cup powdered sugar

1 tablespoon milk

1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

Prepare the Apples: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Toss to coat evenly and let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.

Preheat the Skillet: Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the apple mixture and cook for about 5-7 minutes until the apples are slightly softened but still hold their shape.

Make the Crisp Topping: In another bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, salt, and chopped nuts (if using). Pour in the melted butter and vanilla extract, then mix until crumbly.

Assemble the Crisp: Once the apples are ready in the skillet, distribute the oat mixture evenly over the top of the apples.

Bake: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and crisp.

Prepare the Cinnamon Drizzle: While the crisp is baking, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, ground cinnamon, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the milk to reach your desired consistency.

Serve: Once the apple crisp is done baking, remove it from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Drizzle the cinnamon glaze over individual servings and enjoy warm, perhaps with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on the side!
