Ingredients

4 cups of peeled and sliced apples (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

1 cup of granulated sugar

1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

1 lemon, juiced (about 2 tablespoons of juice)

1 box (15.25 oz) of yellow cake mix

1 cup (2 sticks) of unsalted butter, melted

1 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare Apples: In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and lemon juice. Stir until the apples are well-coated with the mixture. This will enhance their sweetness and flavor.

Arrange Apples: Spread the apple mixture evenly in the bottom of a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Add Cake Mix: Evenly sprinkle the dry yellow cake mix over the apple layer. Make sure to cover the apples completely for even baking.

Drizzle Butter: Pour the melted butter evenly over the cake mix. Don’t worry about making it perfect; the butter will melt into the cake during baking.

Add Nuts (Optional): If using, sprinkle the chopped pecans or walnuts over the top for an added crunch and nutty flavor.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbling around the edges.

Cool and Serve: Allow the dump cake to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm, topped with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream if desired.
