1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup cornmeal (yellow or white)

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup buttermilk (or milk with 1 tablespoon of vinegar added)

1/4 cup honey

2 large eggs

1/4 cup butter, melted (plus extra for greasing the pan)

1/2 cup sweetened cream-style corn (optional, for added moisture and flavor)

1/4 cup honey (for drizzling on top)

Instructions
 

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Grease an 8-inch square baking dish (or cast-iron skillet) with butter or cooking spray.

    Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well-combined.

      Mix Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, honey, and eggs. Then, slowly add the melted butter while continuing to whisk until fully combined.

        Combine Ingredients: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. If using, gently fold in the sweetened cream-style corn. Stir until just combined; be careful not to overmix—the batter should be lumpy.

          Pour and Bake: Pour the cornbread batter into the prepared baking dish, smoothing the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
